David Terman
Romneys main support is from whites (especially men),conservatives, wealthy, religious people and maybe older voters.Obamas support if from poorer people, liberals, women, minorities. He also had good support in states like Ohio because he supported helping the auto industry when it needed it andthis helped keep many jobs. Romney is stronger in rural areas and obama stronger in cities.
In order to become the republican nominee, Romney had to first compete against many other conservatives. To do this,he had to appeal to the very right-wing conservatives. Thenin order to have a chance to be elected president, he had to become more moderate so he had to change his positiona lot. The conservatives are very unpopular among minorities, especially Latinos and blacks. This is a growing populationand increasingly important to become elected. Moreover, many conservatives are against abortion and other issuesimportant to women, so women mainly voted for obama.
